Beethoven informs Johann Baptist Bach, his lawyer in matters of the guardianship, of his draft for a memorandum (HCB Br 1) to the Court of Appeal. The Magistrat had revoked Beethoven's guardianship of his nephew Karl in September 1819 and once again awarded it to the child's mother. Beethoven's memorandum to the Court of Appeal contains a counter representation to the Magistrat's report, giving reasons for the decision in the mother's favour.
