After Beethoven and Josephine Deym had written intimate letters to one another in winter 1804/05, their relationship noticeably cooled in 1806; Beethoven's love was too insistent and demanding for Josephine, she also energetically repulsed his petty jealousies. The break occurred in September 1807.
