Nice to know

Petition from Johanna van Beethoven, asking to be allowed to send her son to the k.k. seminary. Her main reason for wanting to do so is, "that my son is sadly in the hands of the co-guardian and uncle, Ludwig van Beethofen, who is obliged to spend a large part of the year in the country on account of his deafness and permanent ill health. My son cannot therefore receive the necessary education and the beneficial uninterrupted tuition, and is even more of a burden to him under these circumstances". Johanna asks to soon be given advice in this matter in the presence of the co-guardian Ludwig van Beethoven.

According to notes on the last page, the parties were summoned on 22 September 1818, and Beethoven was asked to bring his nephew's school reports. On 2 October the petition was rejected. Another signature closes this file on 8 October 1818.
