Johann Anton André was a successful music publisher in Offenbach. This letter is the only surviving proof of Beethoven's negotiations with his publishing house. However, they never came to anything. Between 1802 and 1806 Beethoven's younger brother Kaspar Karl worked as his brother's unpaid secretary on the side and carried out negotiations with music publishers on his behalf.
