Beethoven was particularly solicitous of his brother Kaspar Karl and his family in his brother's final year. He not only supported the family financially but also tried to fulfil some of his brother's wishes. These included owning horses, as Beethoven tells Brauchle.
A few weeks before this Beethoven had mentioned a similar wish of his brother's to Joseph Varena in Graz (HCB BBr 119, BGA 781), probably asking Varena to get peacocks.
