Nice to know
Karl van Beethoven offers the publishing house Breitkopf & Härtel several works by his brother: the Piano Variations opp. 34 and 35, "a completely new invention", and the Violin Romances opp. 40 and 50. (Breitkopf & Härtel bought the Variations but not the Romances).
In addition Karl sends the text of an "announcement", which he would like to have published in the Leipziger Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung and in the Hamburger Zeitung. The announcement has also appeared in the Wiener Zeitung. In it Ludwig van Beethoven protests against unlawful arrangements for quartet of the Symphony op. 21 and the Septet op. 20, and advertises his own String Quintet op. 29.
