Nice to know
Beethoven asks Moscheles for support in the matter of a concert for his benefit to be given by the Philharmonic Society. As Beethoven himself says, he is so weak that even dictation is difficult for him and he has not been able to work for two months due to his illness. He is worried about falling into need. The Philharmonic Society had already offered to hold a benefit concert for him ten years ago, and he refers to this.
Beethoven has enclosed similar letters which he asks to be passed on to other acquaintances in London, namely George Smart and Johann Andreas Stumpff.
