Adalbert Gyrowetz (1763-1850) - Lithographie von Michael Bisenius, gedruckt von Johann Höfelich, Fotografie, Wien, um 1925

Beethoven-Haus Bonn, NE 81, Band VI, Nr. 1067

Nice to know

Adalbert Gyrowetz received a musician's education in Naples and later worked in Paris and London. In 1804 he became conductor at the Vienna Court Opera. Until 1831 he also held the position of court bandmaster.

Gyrowetz composed numerous operas and ballets, 40 symphonies, piano concerts, various masses and pieces for chamber music. The audience liked his light and debonair style very much. His music had been influenced by composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn whereas Ludwig van Beethoven distanced himself from Gyrowetz.(S.B.)
