Beethoven beim Spaziergang - Zeichnung, angeblich von Martin Tejček, Fotografie, um 1910?

Beethoven-Haus Bonn, NE 81, Band VI, Nr. 1013

Nice to know

Martin Tejcek (1780-1847), a painter and lithographer from Prague, relocated to Vienna in 1821 where he worked at the lithographic institute. He must have observed Beethoven taking a walk and painted the composer. There are no records of an acquaintance between Beethove and Tejcek.

The original tusche drawing probably dates back to 1826. The painter later gave it to Joseph Graff in Prague who took a photograph of it. Either this photograph or the original drawing was used as a model for the shown reproduction, which Stephan Ley, a Beethoven researcher acquired in the early 20th century. Today, Tejcek's draft is lost. During the 19th century is was a popular model for various lithographs and reprints.(S.B.)
