Beethoven formulates a statement, apparently at Holz' request, in which he considers his friend "to be called to publish my biography one day". He says he completely trusts "that what I have told him for this purpose, he will honestly record for posterity."
Holz hands over the rights he has been given by Beethoven and any future proceeds to Gassner. In addition he assures him of his support in the acquisition of further materials from the composer's former acquaintances. From what we hear, Gassner had agreed to hand over the biography for publication by the end of August 1844.
