Beethoven-Haus Bonn, NE 81, Band III, Nr. 521

Therese Malfatti was the niece of the famous and wealthy medical doctor Johann Baptist Malfatti (1775-1859), with whom Ludwig van Beethoven made friends around 1808. Beethoven gave Therese lessons in playing the piano. According to some of his letters, the composer admired her very much. In 1810, he even must have planned to marry Therese, but he got rejected. Several years later, Therese von Malfatti married Johann Wilhelm Freiherr von Drosdick, who was imperial court counselor of the war chambers. (S.B.)
