Nice to know
Only sketches for the last movement
On this bifolium Beethoven exclusively wrote down ideas for the last (fourth) movement of the Hammerklavier Sonata. An important sketchbook for this sonata, the so-called Boldrini Sketchbook has been missing for over 100 years and we only know of it from old descriptions. Sadly it contained Beethoven's most extensive work for his Piano Sonata op. 106, including most of the drafts for the first movements. The remaining single sketch leaves for the most part contain drafts for the last movement. (J.R.)
