Poster

From Dutch "plakkaat" (edict or placard); called "affiche" in French. A publicly displayed, often large-format announcement to share information and/or influence a wider audience. Artistically designed posters that supplanted the text poster in the second half of the 19th century are of a great interest to art history. The main characteristic of modern posters is a preferably harmonic combination of images and text in a closed composition. For plain text posters a well-arranged and easy to read layout is essential.
