International Beethoven Masterclass Bonn

Course for classical song with Christoph Prégardien

11.04.2023

September 24 to 28, 2023
Call for applications for singers until 30 June - Apply now!

Since 2006, the Beethoven-Haus has been organising the International Beethoven Master Classes every year in Bonn - initially as master classes for conducting, initiated and led by Maestro Kurt Masur, and since 2010 as master classes for chamber music. The lecturers were and are internationally renowned artists such as Alfred Brendel, the Artemis Quartet, Tabea Zimmermann, Sir András Schiff, Andreas Staier, the Jean Paul Trio, Steven Isserlis and Daniel Müller-Schott.

The Beethoven-Haus will also offer a master class in 2023, this time for the first time for singers. Christoph Prégardien, one of the most important lyric tenors and lieder singers of our time, has been won as a lecturer. The master class is financed by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. The master class with Christoph Prégardien will concentrate on classical songs. The focus will be on songs by Beethoven, but works by other composers can also be worked on.

In addition to Beethoven's birthplace and the modern chamber music hall, the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn also includes the world's largest Beethoven collection and a scientific research centre. This enables a particularly intensive study of Beethoven at an authentic location: the practical courses are always combined with a study of sources in the Beethoven-Haus, supervised by the scientific staff of the Beethoven Archive. By studying the sources for the Beethoven works, the participants receive additional valuable suggestions for their interpretation.

The public lessons with Christoph Prégardien will take place in the mornings and afternoons, they are partly open for an audience in the Chamber Music Hall of the Beethoven-Haus. They will also be streamed live on the internet. The course ends with a final concert of the participants.
