From Manuscript to Interpretation
Original Manuscripts of Beethoven's Chamber Music
08.09.2010 to 20.02.2011
Chamber music is the genre in which Beethoven ventured furthest "into the open"; away from the boundaries of classical form towards ever new individual solutions. This year's Beethovenfest offers cyclical performances of Beethoven's piano trios and violin sonatas. The exhibition also presents exciting sources of these works. Visitors can follow the path from the composer's first sketches to the finished work in concert. The exhibition also sheds light on the little-known editorial work of the musicologists in the Beethoven Archive, who use the available sources such as sketches, original manuscripts, copies checked by the composer and corrected first editions to create the basis for interpretations "in the spirit of the composer".
