Moritz von Schwind and Ludwig van Beethoven
The Painter and His Enthusiasm for Music
17.12.2004 to 12.03.2005
Music played a very special role in the life of Moritz von Schwind (1804-1871). The painter, who was best known for his romantic history paintings, was a close friend of Franz Schubert and a talented violinist himself. Throughout his life, he loved music and revered the masters of Viennese classical music. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his birth, the Beethoven-Haus is organising a special exhibition highlighting Schwind's relationship to the work and person of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Originals and reproductions of the painter's works will be on display, which deal with Beethoven's music, but also with the composer himself in a highly original way.
