PRESS INVITATION – 5 May 2026, 2:00 pm
Reconstruction of Beethoven's last grand piano
22.04.2026Site visit to the museum with piano maker Chris Maene, Tom Beghin (the project's initiator), researcher Dr Katharina Preller and curator Dr Julia Ronge
As reported a few weeks ago, a replica of Beethoven's last grand piano is currently being built in Belgium at Chris Maene's piano-making workshop in collaboration with the Beethoven-Haus. The original instrument, which is on display in the museum, is no longer playable. The reconstruction of the 1826 hammer piano from the Conrad Graf workshop is intended to help bring the soundscape of Beethoven's era to life and foster a better understanding of it.
In preparation for the replica, scientific examinations of the Graf piano at the Beethoven-Haus are required on a regular basis. At the next meeting with Chris Maene and his colleagues – researcher Dr Katharina Preller (LU Munich) and the project’s initiator Tom Beghin from the Orpheus Instituut in Leuven – we would like to give media representatives the opportunity to look over our partners' shoulders as they work on the grand piano and to ask them questions. Dr Julia Ronge, the curator of the Beethoven-Haus, will also be present.
We therefore cordially invite you to a
press briefing
on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, at 2 pm
at the Beethoven-Haus Museum
Bonngasse 20, 53111 Bonn
The event is also open to photographers and film crews.
