RESOUND Beethoven 9 The programme of the world premiere
Celebratory concert to mark the 200th anniversary of the premiere of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony
12.04.20247 May 2024, 7 pm - Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal
Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 was premiered in Vienna on 7 May 1824. This event is considered a milestone in music history. The Beethoven-Haus is celebrating the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's last symphony, whose Joy melody is the anthem of the EU, with two special commemorative concerts on 7 and 8 May 2024. The world premiere concert will be reconstructed for the first time in collaboration with the University of Vienna and the Vienna Academy Orchestra as well as in cooperation with WDR. This promises a unique listening experience.
The festive concerts are the highlight of a series of events organised by the Beethoven-Haus to mark the anniversary of the Ninth Symphony (see below for an overview). The festive concerts are made possible by the generous support of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and the Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal. We presented the anniversary programme for the first time at a press conference in November 2023.
