Belcea Quartet receives honorary membership of the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn

The Belcea Quartet has been enriching the international chamber music scene for 30 years. To mark its anniversary, it is currently on a world tour and yesterday made a stop at the Chamber Music Hall. Since the release of its complete recording of Beethoven's string quartets in 2019, the ensemble has been considered one of the great Beethoven interpreters. The fact that Beethoven's works are always at the centre of attention for the four musicians – Corina Belcea and Suyeon Kang, violin, Krzysztof Chorzelski, viola, and Antoine Lederlin, cello – is also evident in the programmes of their anniversary concerts. 'The Belceas' subtle concepts and interpretations make Beethoven's works sound fresh and lively time and again,' says Malte Boecker. 'With their commitment to their foundation, they are also promoting contemporary string quartet works and thus a genre that is of central importance in Beethoven's oeuvre.'

The Belceas have been welcome guests in the chamber music hall of the Beethoven-Haus for many years. Their impressive performance during BTHVN WEEK 2020, then still under the artistic direction of Tabea Zimmermann, is still remembered with great enthusiasm. The ensemble last visited the Beethoven-Haus in September 2024 as lecturers at the International Beethoven Master Classes. It was a real treat to see how the Belceas shared their approach to Beethoven's works with their master students. The musicians not only passed on their many years of experience as Beethoven interpreters, but also their enthusiasm for Beethoven's work. 'This is what makes them such special Beethoven ambassadors,' says Boecker.
