Discover Warhol's Beethoven
Supporting programme for the special exhibition 'Beethoven by Warhol', featuring guided tours, activities for nurseries and schools, and for people aged 3–99
08.10.2026Since it opened in early September, the ‘Beethoven by Warhol’ exhibition has already captivated numerous music and art lovers. Spanning the entire museum, the exhibition, which runs until 5 April 2027, explores the history of Andy Warhol’s engagement with Beethoven. The exhibition is one of the highlights of the special programme organised by the Beethoven-Haus to mark the 200th anniversary of the composer’s death.
An extensive programme of events running throughout the exhibition invites visitors to explore the various aspects of the theme in greater depth. The events are aimed at different age groups and interests. For adults, for example, there are special guided tours led by the exhibition team: Silke Bettermann, curator and art historian at the Beethoven-Haus, will lead a tour of the exhibition on Sunday 11 October at 4 pm. A maximum of 20 people may take part in the tour; please register by emailing museum@beethoven.de or by telephone on 0228 98175-25.
There are also special programmes for schools and nurseries: during a guided tour of the museum, children and young people learn fascinating facts about the Pop Art artist Andy Warhol, his connection to Beethoven and, of course, a great deal about the composer himself. The guided museum tour can be combined with a wide range of creative activities tailored to the respective age groups. The young participants will follow in the footsteps of Warhol’s legendary ‘Factory’ and learn about selected aspects of his work: for example, the principle of repetition, the use of different materials and textures, or his printing techniques, which are demonstrated using simple methods. Feel free to get creative! Further information on the individual creative activities is available at www.beethoven.de. Kindergarten groups or school classes can book a visit via the museum office at museum@beethoven.de or by telephone on 0228 98175-25. The office can also offer advice on planning your museum visit.
During the autumn half-term holidays, the museum team is inviting people aged 3–99 to take part in the ‘Print Like Warhol’ open creative workshop from 28 to 30 October, from 1 pm to 5 pm each day. Inspired by the exhibition, visitors can try out various techniques that Warhol experimented with. Using a Polaroid camera, wigs, sunglasses and other accessories, they can also pose for a Warhol-style selfie at a dedicated selfie station. No booking is required for the creative workshops; the cost is included in the museum admission fee.
Particularly suitable for families and children are the museum afternoons on 14 November, 2.00–5.30 pm (‘Beethoven by Warhol – Thirty are better than one’) or on 31 January 2027, 2.00–5.30 pm (King of selfies?) or the moonlight tours (for brave children aged 7 and over), which take place on various Fridays from 7.00 to 8.30 pm and invite visitors to explore the museum in the dark – with a torch, of course. Andy Warhol is also joining in the fun this time.
