We mourn the death of our honorary member Igor Oistrach
03.09.2021As has only just become known, the Russian violinist Igor Oistrach died in Moscow on 14 August at the age of 90. He was born in Odessa on 27 April 1931 as the son of the great violinist David Oistrach and also received his first violin lessons from his father. David and Igor Oistrach also performed together frequently later on. In addition, Igor Oistrach performed worldwide with other renowned musicians such as Pablo Casals and Yehudi Menuhin. He first taught at the Moscow Conservatoire, then from 1996 at the Royal Conservatoire in Brussels.
Together with his wife, the pianist Natalia Oistrach-Serzalova, Igor Oistrach recorded Beethoven's violin sonatas and made a special contribution to Beethoven's work with this recording. In 1970, the Oistrachs were awarded honorary membership of the Beethoven-Haus Association for this achievement.
Igor Oistrach last performed with his son Valery in the Chamber Music Hall of the Beethoven-Haus in the 1995/96 season.
