"Hope for Peace" emergency aid programme
Beethoven-Haus provides living space and organises benefit concerts with and for the benefit of musicians in need from the conflict region
17.01.2023Under the title "Hope for Peace", the Beethoven-Haus is launching an emergency aid programme to support musicians who are in need and on the run due to the crisis in Eastern Europe. Several benefit concerts are planned to raise funds for the measures. Furthermore, the Beethoven-Haus has living space that is made available to musicians who have fled. In addition, those affected will be offered rehearsal, concert and recording opportunities in the Beethoven-Haus on a project-by-project basis so that they can continue to work artistically. Finally, musical encounters between artistic personalities who see themselves as bridge-builders between Ukraine, Russia and the wider Europe are to be promoted.
"The aim is to support affected artists and their families through music and with the resources of the Beethoven-Haus. We want to contribute to understanding between those affected from the conflict regions and provide space for Russian and Ukrainian music in particular, which can contribute to a culture of peace," explains Malte Boecker, director of the Beethoven-Haus. "To this end, the Beethoven-Haus is in close exchange with comparable initiatives, for example at the Centre Européen de Musique in Paris." The president of the Beethoven-Haus, violinist Daniel Hope, supports this initiative. He has already given several concerts as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine.
The first benefit events are already planned for April. On 29 April, for example, a special concert in the Aspekte series is on the programme, with which the Beethoven-Haus is appealing for donations. The Ukrainian jazz pianist Vadim Neselovskyi will play his solo programme "Odessa" in the Chamber Music Hall. Deutschlandfunk will record the concert. In addition, the Beethoven-Haus is co-organising other benefit concerts, the proceeds of which will also go to the emergency aid programme "Hope for Peace".
The Beethoven-Haus is asking for generous support for the emergency aid programme, through donations and/or volunteer work. For this purpose, the aid fund "Hope for Peace" has been set up at the Beethoven-Haus Foundation.
