At the general meeting of the Beethoven House Association in June 2003, it was unanimously decided to appoint the conductor Kurt Masur as an honorary member. With honorary membership, the Beethoven House Association recognizes Masur's special achievements as an interpreter of Beethoven's works as well as his contributions to national and international musical life.

More recently, Claudio Abbado, Yehudi Menuhin, György Kurtág, Isaac Stern and Anne-Sophie Mutter, among others, have been made honorary members.
Kurt Masur personally took the certificate of honorary membership from the hands of Prof. Dr. on September 14th. Andreas Eckhardt, director of the Beethoven House.
Afterwards, Professor Masur discussed performance issues with employees of the Beethoven House and his conducting assistants using a facsimile edition of "Eroica".
