Almost a month after Kurt Masur, the Beethoven House Association awarded honorary membership to another outstanding musician: Rudolf Buchbinder. The Austrian began his career as an internationally sought-after concert pianist 50 years ago as a child prodigy. Beethoven's music plays a central role in his wide repertoire. She is also interested in his work as a collector of antiquarian documents.
On October 13, 2003, the artist received the certificate of honorary membership during a visit to the Beethoven House.
Since its founding in 1889, the Beethoven House Association has repeatedly honored outstanding musical figures with honorary membership. One of the first honorary members was Johannes Brahms. More recently, Claudio Abbado, Yehudi Menuhin, György Kurtág, Isaac Stern and Anne-Sophie Mutter, among others, have been made honorary members.
