Artist in Residence 2024-25
Diyang Mei
Since the 2021/22 concert season, we have been inviting one artist to present themselves in different concerts. This season, we warmly welcome the young violist Diyang Mei, first principal violist with the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2022, as Artist in Residence.
Since Diyang Mei won first prize in the viola category at the ARD International Music Competition in 2018, the audience prize and several special prizes, he has been steadily expanding his international career. He has won numerous other first prizes at international competitions and has been sponsored by the Borletti-Buitoni Trust in London since 2018. From 2019 to 2022, Diyang Mei was principal violist of the Munich Philharmonic and has held this position with the Berliner Philharmoniker since autumn 2022. He performs as a soloist and chamber musician with renowned orchestras and fellow musicians. Diyang Mei is currently studying at Kronberg Academy with Nobuko Imai and is a scholarship holder of Yehudi Menuhin LMN e.V. He is also a visiting professor at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin.
"Ludwig van Beethoven's music and compositions bridge time and space and have endured for centuries. They still touch people's souls deeply today. His music not only represents his extraordinary talent and creativity, but is also a deep exploration of human emotions and spiritual life. I feel very honoured to be Artist in Residence. This allows me to better understand and get closer to this great legend Beethoven. When I was ten years old, I heard the Fifth Symphony for the first time, and I have been a passionate follower of Beethoven ever since. I am delighted to be able to devote myself to this extraordinary artistic personality at the Beethoven-Haus Bonn." - Diyang Mei
Diyang Mei will be performing at the Beethoven-Haus with a solo recital, a duo recital on Beethoven's baptism day and a string trio evening with renowned colleagues.
