Master Class for Chamber Music 2014

Tabea Zimmermann

From 8 to 11 July 2014, an International Beethoven Master Class for Chamber Music took place for the fifth time in the H.J. Abs Chamber Music Hall of the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn. The lecturer was the internationally renowned violist Tabea Zimmermann, who has been chairwoman of the board of the Beethoven-Haus Association since 2013. Tabea Zimmermann had selected four young artists or ensembles as participants for her course at the Beethoven House. Works for duo, trio and string quartet formations were developed. Compositions by Beethoven were naturally the focus, but the young musicians had also prepared another work for the course.

The International Beethoven Master Classes have been organised by the Beethoven-Haus since 2006 and are sponsored by theFederal Government for Culture and the Media. Initially, they were exclusively courses for young conductors under the direction of Kurt Masur. Since 2010, the Beethoven House has also been organising chamber music master classes.

A central component of the master classes at the Beethoven-Haus is an intensive study of the sources from the Beethoven-Haus extensive collection. The study of sources is supervised by the scholars of the Beethoven-Haus and is a unique offer to young artists.
