Alfred Brendel, famous pianist and long-time member of the Beethoven-Haus Association, was the instructor for the first chamber music course that took place from August 1 to 5 in 2010. Alfred Brendel passed his musical knowledge and experience on to two young string quartets chosen by the renowned Artemis Quartet whose musicians are also honorary members of the Beethoven-Haus. The selected quartets were the Quartetto Christ from Berlin and the Meccorre String Quartet from Poland. The programme included Ludwig van Beethoven's string quartets op. 132 in A minor and op. 135 in F major.
Prof. Dr. Emil Platen, publisher of the volume concerning the late string quartets of the Neue Gesamtausgabe (New Complete Edition (of Beethoven's compositions), served as musicological advisor. The Neue Gesamtausgabe is published by the Henle publishing house that also has provided the sheet music for the master class.
The master class rehearsals took place as public events.
