Since 2013 the mentoring courses are for advanced music or music science students as well as young scientists, musicians or ensembles in their early professional years up to an age of 32. Among the selection criteria are open-mindedness, a broad general education and an exceptional voluntary interest in Beethoven.Following the recommendations of honorary members and employees of the scientific council, the board of directors of the Beethoven-Haus names up to four mentees per year.

A significant part of the programme is intensive source studies. By discussing and learning about topics related to philology, music history and performance techniques, musicologists of the Beethoven-Archiv introduce the young artists and musicologists to Beethoven's manuscripts, historical music instruments and other sources of the Beethoven-Haus collection. The mentees are given ideas for new interpretation approaches and their individual work with Beethoven's compositions.
They are also invited to concerts and lectures at the Beethoven-Haus and they take part in arranging the baptism celebration on December 17.
