Sacred music

Beethoven composed three major sacred works for choir, solo parts and symphony orchestra: one Jesus oratorio and two catholic masses. While the oratorio was composed within a few weeks only, it took Beethoven almost four years to finish the Missa Solemnis— in Beethoven's own opinion, his best composition ever. Holding the sheet music of the Missa Solemnis in one hand, he even posed for a portrait.
